Vandalism claims, where the vehicle is scratched on every panel to ensure a full paint job is paid for by the insurance carrier, are a costly trend. These claims are sometimes perpetrated by unscrupulous body shop owners.
Far too often an insured will report their vehicle was hit while parked by a phantom vehicle, when in fact, the vehicle was moving when it collided with a fixed object or other motor vehicle. Insureds fraudulently report these claims for a number of reasons: (1) they don’t want an at fault collision on their driving record, (2) an unlisted driver was operating the vehicle, or (3) the loss occurred as the result of some criminal activity.
Recorded statements to verify the facts of the loss
Review of the damages by a Collision Reconstructionist to determine if the damages are consistent with the reported facts of the loss
Re-interview the Insured if the damages are not consistent – often times when presented with the evidence, they will confess to what actually occurred
Cellphone location data analysis and forensics

Event Data Recorders (EDRs) are electronic devices, commonly called Black Boxes, that are installed in motor vehicles. EDRs have the ability to record information about what a vehicle did before, during and immediately after a traffic collision.
Specially trained personnel from Viper Group are dispatched to the location where the Insured vehicle is stored. Using the latest electronic equipment from Bosch, the information is downloaded from the airbag module, analyzed and a report is prepared for the Client. Generally, the analysis shows the following information:
The speed of the vehicle leading up to the impact, along with the vehicle speed at the time of the impact
Acceleration, deceleration and braking information
The position of the accelerator pedal
Seatbelts in use
Occupancy of the front seats and often times the weights of those occupying them
Steering direction - degrees off center
Changes in direction, speed and pedal positions prior to and immediately after impact
